Matt first traveled to Tanzania as a high school student in the summer of 2007. He was overwhelmed by the vitality and kindness of everyone he met; although many people had so little, they didn’t think twice about sharing what they did have. One boy in particular, John Medo, opened Matt’s eyes to the vast inequality that exists in our world, and the power of education in providing individuals with the tools to create a better future for themselves, their families, and even the larger global community. Funding John’s 2008, 1st year of secondary school, was the start of The School Fund. Since then, Matt has turned that simple action–a person helping a student go to school–into a project that has the potential to give countless others the opportunity to support and befriend a student in another part of the world.
Matt attended Palo Alto High School (’07) in Palo Alto, CA and is now at Brown University (’11) in Providence, RI.
